204 area: Manitoba
10-digit dialing will soon be mandatory
Starting July 29, 2012, businesses and consumers in the 204 region will have to adopt 10-digit dialing – the area code followed by the phone number – for all local communications. This dialing method has been successfully implemented in several regions in Canada.
The introduction of 10-digit dialing is the result of a decision by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and will pave the way for the addition of a new area code, 431, starting on November 3, 2012, as the 204 area code reaches capacity.
For your local calls, you will always enter 10 digits (area code + local number):
- from 204 to 204
- from 204 to 431
- from 431 to 431
- from 431 to 204
Do you have a number in the 204 area?
Anyone who already has a number with area code 204 will keep the same number.
