705 area: northern Ontario
10-digit dialing will soon be mandatory
Starting on January 15, 2011, businesses and consumers in the 705 region will have to adopt 10-digit dialing – the area code followed by the phone number – for all local communications, except when calling numbers with the 310 prefix. This new dialing method was recently implemented with success in Québec and several other regions in Ontario.
In addition, the new area code 249 will also be introduced starting on March 19, 2011
For your local calls, you will always enter 10 digits (area code + local number):
- from 705 to 705
- from 705 to 249
- from 249 to 249
The 9-1-1 emergency number remains a three-digit number.
You have a number in the 705 area?
Anyone who already has a number with area code 705 will keep the same number.
